Seven Gophers named to U.S. Collegiate Select Team roster, facing Canadian counterparts and 3 GWH teammates this week

Seven members of the 2025-2026 Gopher Women's Hockey team will be donning the Red, White, and Blue this week after being named to the 25-player U.S. Collegiate Select Team roster yesterday for the upcoming Collegiate Series against their Canadian counterparts in Lake Placid, New York.  We send our congratulations to (as pictured above) Layla Hemp, Jamie Nelson, Bella Fanale, Molly Jordan, Ava Lindsay, Madison Kaiser, and Sydney Morrow on their selections following the USA Hockey Women's National Festival.

As reported late last month, their Gopher teammates Hannah Clark, Sienna D'Alessandro, and Sarah Paul were named to Canada's National Women's Development Team roster for the series, marking a total of 10 U. of M. representatives participating in Lake Placid.  We send wishes of good luck to all ten.

Those contests will be played...

  • Wednesday, August 13 at 5:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. CT

  • Thursday, August 14 at 2:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. CT

  • Saturday, August 16 at 5:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. CT

Video streaming of all three games live on-demand will be available on the USAHockeyTV.com subscription service.  Coverage of the U18 Series between the Americans and Canadians, also taking place on the 13th, 14th and 16th in Lake Placid, is also available on the service.

Gopher Women's Hockey team announces staffing changes

The Golden Gopher Women's Hockey program and head coach Brad Frost announced two staff updates last Thursday ahead of the 2025-2026 season.

Assistant Coach Jess Scott has been promoted to General Manager/Assistant Coach, becoming the first general manager with recruiting/coaching abilities in NCAA women's college hockey history.  Scott joined the GWH program in 2019, serving three seasons as the Director of Operations before being named an assistant coach in 2022.  She also served as Director of Hockey Operations of the U.S. U18 Women's National Team for the 2022 & 2023 IIHF U18 Women's World Championships.

Meanwhile, Ryan Kearney joins the staff as the new Director of Operations and Video Analytics.  Kearney comes to the Gophers after three seasons at Colgate University, serving as the Director of Hockey Operations for their women's hockey team.

Prior to his time at Colgate, Kearney was a video assistant for the NAHL's Maryland Black Bears.  He's also served as a Hockey Operations and Video Coach for USA Hockey's Girls National Camps since 2023.  Before that, he worked in hockey operations for the Ontario Junior Reign in the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL).

Congratulations, Jess, on your promotion, and welcome Ryan!!
