GWH alums Murphy, Laitinen, Morrow, Nelson and Bouveng selected in last night's 2026 PWHL Entry Draft
Gopher Women's Hockey alumnae Abbey Murphy, Nelli Laitinen, Sydney Morrow, Jamie Nelson & Josefin Bouveng heard their names called at last night's 2026 PWHL Entry Draft held at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan.
Murphy was the first of the Gopher contingent selected, being picked 2nd overall by the Seattle Torrent. Laitinen also went in the 1st Round just four picks later, chosen 6th by expansion team PWHL Hamilton. Morrow and Nelson followed in the 2nd Round; Morrow was picked 14th overall, joining Murphy in Seattle, while Nelson was chosen as the 20th selection by the Toronto Sceptres. Bouveng completed the U. of M. picks, going 29th overall in the 3rd Round to expansion PWHL Las Vegas.
We congratulate the five on their selections and wish them the best in their new endeavors!! We also give a shout-out and send additional best wishes to alumna Allie Franco, who remains an undrafted free agent. We will continue to watch for signing updates and training camp invitations as the off-season progresses.

Pre-draft trade sends GWH alum Abby Boreen back to Vancouver
Similar to what we saw on Tuesday with fellow Gopher Women's Hockey alumna Ella Huber, forward Abby Boreen was traded back to her 2025-2026 club after having been acquired earlier in the week by an expansion team in the PWHL's roster-building process.
As we shared in yesterday's Penalty Box Post, Boreen was announced as having her contract acquired by PWHL Las Vegas on Monday, which would have been her fourth team entering her fourth professional season. However, she was traded back to the Vancouver Goldeneyes prior to last night's draft in a deal which included an exchange of draft picks.
Emily Brown re-signs with Seattle Torrent on two-year contract
Meanwhile, Gopher alum and defender Emily Brown was one of three members of the Seattle Torrent in 2025-2026 re-signing with the club yesterday, coming to terms on a new 2-Year Standard Player Agreement.
Brown spent her first two PWHL seasons playing with the Boston Fleet before being selected by the Torrent in last year's PWHL Expansion Draft. Being named one of Seattle's alternate captains for their inaugural season, she recorded four assists in their 30 regular-season contests.
