Abbey Murphy announces return to Gophers for 2025-2026

The sixth-highest career goal scorer in Gopher Women's Hockey history is not done yet.  The team announced Wednesday that All-American forward Abbey Murphy has decided to return for the 2025-2026 season, using her final year of eligibility.

Murphy was named a Second Team CCM/AHCA All-American in March after a 65-point season in 2024-2025 on 33 goals and 32 assists.  At the time of the announcement, Murphy led NCAA Division I players in both game-winning goals (7) and shots (242).  She was in the top-ten nationally in multiple other statistics, including her points, goals, and assist totals, goals per game (.79), power play goals (8), and points per game (1.55).  She finished the year with 103 career goals, sandwiched between Hockey Hall of Famers Natalie Darwitz (102) and Krissy Wendell-Pohl (105); Murphy's 195 career points are within striking distance of Minnesota's top ten.

As noted in the press release from the team, Murphy, whose collegiate career began in 2020-2021, has the opportunity to return due to an Olympic redshirt during the 2021-2022 season and an extra year of eligibility that was granted in 2020 due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19.

Welcome back, Abbey!!  We look forward to the drop of the puck this fall!!

Minnesota announces signing of transfer Molly Jordan

In other player news, the Gopher Women's Hockey team and head coach Brad Frost announced yesterday the signing of transfer Molly Jordan to the roster as a junior defender for 2025-2026.

Jordan comes to Minnesota after playing two season at Boston College, where in 69 career games she tallied 41 points on 12 goals and 29 assists.  She earned All-Hockey East Second-Team honors after recording 24 points last season (8g-16a), leading Eagle blueliners in points, goals, assists, and shots.  Jordan also earned honors as a Hockey East Defender of the Week last October and Hockey East Rookie of the Month in January of her freshman year (2023-2024).  She was also a two-time member of the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team.

We send a warm welcome to Molly, and we look forward to seeing her in a Gopher sweater in the fall!!
