Murphy named Top-Three Finalist for 2026 Patty Kazmaier Award
We send more congratulations and good luck wishes to Gopher Women's Hockey co-captain Abbey Murphy after she was named a Top-Three Finalist for the 2026 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award on Wednesday by the USA Hockey Foundation. The award recognizes the season's best player in NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey.
Murphy continues to lead the nation in goals per game (1.27) and points per game (2.13), lighting the lamp 38 times and dishing out 26 assists. The WCHA Forward of the Year winner became the all-time leading goal scorer in Minnesota Women's Hockey program history two weeks ago, finding the back of the net for the 140th and 141st times in her Gopher career.
Murphy is joined in the top three by Wisconsin senior defender Caroline Harvey and Penn State senior forward Tessa Janecke. All three were members of the 2026 United States Olympic Women's Hockey Team which won the gold medal last month in Milan, Italy.
The Patty Kazmaier Award will be presented next Saturday, March 21, in University Park, PA, as part of NCAA Frozen Four festivities. It will be televised live on NHL Network, with coverage starting at 12:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 a.m. CT.
