Pending: Power Play Club email address change

In the effort to reduce operating expenses, the Power Play Club's Board of Directors approved a motion from the technology subcommittee to phase out the use of the news@powerplayclub.org email address in favor of a free option.  As such, the club will be reverting to its previous powerplayclub1@gmail.com address within the next month, and we will keep you informed as to the official timing of the change.

Please make sure to add powerplayclub1@gmail.com to the safe senders list in your own account.

GWH coach Boom May announces new coaching staff

Gopher Women's Hockey head coach Greg "Boom" May announced a series of staff updates as the team heads into the 2026–2027 season.

Jess Scott remains on the team's staff, retaining her title as General Manager.  She first joined the staff as Director of Operations in 2019 and has also served as an assistant coach.

We welcome Marty Sertich, who joins the Gophers as an assistant coach after serving on the staff at St. Thomas in a similar role the past 9 seasons, including through the Tommies' transition to Division I.  In his playing days, Sertich won the 2005 Hobey Baker Award collegiately as a member of the Colorado College Tigers and continued professionally for ten seasons in the AHL and in Europe.

And we send warm "welcome back" greetings to GWH alumnae Winny Brodt Brown and Amanda Leveille, who re-join the team as assistant coaches!  Both were players on Gopher national championship teams; Brodt Brown was a member of Minnesota's first championship squad in 2000 and Leveille earned NCAA title rings in 2013, 2015 & 2016.  In the professional ranks, Leveille backstopped the Buffalo Beauts to a Premier Hockey Federation Isobel Cup championship in 2017, and they won the Isobel Cup as teammates with the Minnesota Whitecaps in 2019.  Brodt Brown founded OS Hockey Training, and Leveille has served recently as their Director of Goaltending.

Host Hungarians come up short as France earns promotion
at 2026 IIHF Women's Division I Group A Championship

Despite suffering only one loss in five games, the Hungary National Women's Hockey Team came up short in its attempt to earn promotion from the 2026 IIHF Women's Division I Group A Championship they hosted in Budapest last week.  Rather, France's national team also conceded only one loss but it occurred in overtime rather than regulation, giving them a one-point edge over the Hungarians for the top spot in the final standings (12-11), earning a place in the top division of the 2027 Women's World Championship.

The Francs will have to wait to see who they'll replace in 2027, as the 2026 IIHF Women's World Championship will not be played until November 6 through 16.  That tournament is being held in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark.

We provide another shout-out to Gopher forward Emma Kreisz, who netted Hungary's game-winning overtime goal in their contest against France, added two assists in the tournament, and posted a +4 plus-minus rating!
